New Bitmain K7 CKB 63.5 TH/s: top mining profitability? Introducing the Nervos Network CKB
Bitmain is launching the Antminer K7, an ASIC built to mine CKB, the cryptocurrency of the Nervos Network, on the Eaglesong algorithm. In this video (in French), we introduce the machine, work out its profitability at the prices of the time and explain what the Nervos project is, to answer a simple question: is the K7 the new "top profitability" miner?
Video from late 2022: the figures below date from that time.
Update: Kadena is dead. The organisation behind Kadena ceased operations in October 2025 and KDA lost more than 60% of its value within hours. The Kadena earnings and Kadena miners (Antminer KA3 and others) covered in this article are no longer relevant.
The Antminer K7: 63.5 TH/s for just over 3,000 W
At the time of filming, the K7 had just been released for pre-order by Bitmain, with availability announced for January. Its specifications:
- Algorithm: Eaglesong (CKB cryptocurrency);
- Hashrate: 63.5 TH/s;
- Power consumption: just over 3,000 W;
- Price: around €5,600 excluding VAT in France.
It is a big leap compared with the existing CKB machines: the Goldshell CK6 delivers 19 TH/s for 3,100 W. The K7 is therefore about three times as powerful for the same power consumption. We put it in the same league as the Antminer KA3 for Kadena, another highly disruptive machine we had already talked about on the channel, then at the top of the profitability rankings and expected in December.
How much does the K7 earn? A payback time of about 9 months
With the CKB price at the time of filming, our calculation gives:
- about 350,000 CKB mined per month, i.e. about €840 per month;
- an electricity bill of about €220 per month, at €0.10 per kWh;
- net earnings of just over €600 per month;
- i.e. a payback time of about 9 months at the CKB price of the time.
For comparison, the Antminer L7 for Dogecoin and Litecoin, already available, then showed a payback time of 32 months.
We then take the reasoning further: if you keep the mined CKB and only sell it once the price recovers, at 50% of its all-time high (ATH), our calculation gives a payback time of less than a month, and a few weeks at the ATH level. A purely theoretical scenario.
The limits of the calculation
- Figures that are still virtual: the machine had not shipped yet, so its profitability remained theoretical;
- Difficulty will rise: when this miner reaches the network, mining difficulty is likely to increase, and each machine will mine less CKB;
- The CKB price: earnings in euros depend directly on the price of the coin when you sell.
Nervos Network: the project behind CKB
We then introduce the Nervos project, whose architecture is built on two layers:
- Layer 1, based on proof of work: this is the one that matters to miners. It uses the Eaglesong algorithm, produces the native CKB token and provides security and decentralisation;
- Layer 2, dedicated to scalability and performance.
Another feature: Nervos relies on RISC-V, a generic, agnostic language that is meant to let it host applications from other blockchains more natively. On the market side, CKB had a total supply of 36 billion tokens, was already listed on many exchanges and ranked around 186th among cryptocurrencies.
An ecosystem that is already active
- UniPass: a single wallet based on an email address, giving access to many cryptocurrencies;
- YokaiSwap: a decentralised exchange with farming, liquidity pools and an NFT marketplace;
- Godwoken: an EVM-compatible solution that makes it easy to host Ethereum smart contracts and applications on Nervos.
Our opinion
On paper, the K7 looks really interesting. For us, Nervos is a nice project, with quite a few partners and good prospects, perhaps even more interesting than Kadena in terms of interoperability, since it aims to be agnostic towards any blockchain. It remains to be seen how network difficulty will evolve once the machines are delivered.
