Heat recovery

Reusing the heat produced by miners to warm a home, water, a greenhouse or a building, instead of releasing it outside.

A miner turns almost all the electricity it consumes into heat. A 3 kW machine therefore heats roughly like a 3 kW electric heater. Heat recovery means putting that energy to use instead of wasting it: heating a room, a workshop or a greenhouse, preheating domestic hot water, or heating a building through a hot water network.

With an air-cooled miner, the simplest method is to direct the hot air into the room to be heated in winter and outside in summer. Hydro and immersion miners are even better suited to the task: the liquid comes out hot and can go through a heat exchanger connected to a water tank or a heating circuit. The heat is then no longer wasted: it replaces part of the heating energy you would otherwise have used.

For a heat recovery project, check the product page for the power consumption, which gives you the heating output, and, for liquid-cooled models, the liquid outlet temperature. Keep in mind that heating needs vary with the seasons, while the miner runs all year round: plan a way to get rid of the heat when you do not need it. Noise also has to be taken into account if the machine is in a living space.

Our energy page covers these uses, and we can advise you on choosing a machine suited to a heating project.
