X11
X11 is a mining algorithm that chains eleven different hash functions. Created for Dash in 2014, it is now mined with ASICs.
X11 is a proof-of-work algorithm created in 2014 for Dash, a cryptocurrency originally known as Darkcoin. Its principle is unusual: instead of a single hash function, it chains eleven, including Blake, Keccak, Skein and Groestl. The output of each function becomes the input of the next, all the way to the final hash.
This choice was mainly about security: a weakness found in one of the functions would not be enough to break the whole. It was also meant to make designing specialized chips harder. As with most algorithms, X11 ASICs eventually arrived, from 2016 onwards, and replaced processors and graphics cards. Dash complements this mining with masternodes, nodes that provide services such as instant transactions.
The hashrate of X11 miners is expressed in GH/s or TH/s. The best-known models are the Antminer D series, along with some iBeLink machines. On the product page, compare efficiency and power consumption, and check which X11 coins your pool lets you mine: Dash is the main one, but not the only one.
Our Dash collection brings together the X11 miners we offer.
